hey guys, yesterday i took my 95 disco 1 for it's maiden voyage out to evans creek which is near pullyallup off of highway 165... you can find info about it online... It was a fun trail, it has been raining quite a bit lately so the trails were real slick and had some muddy spots. My disco is all stock except for a brush gaurd (which played the martyr role quite a bit) and i've got "ALL SEASON" tires, i ended up biting off more than i could chew while following a 04 jeep rubicon, i think the rover was as graceful for the most part as the rubicon. All in all i had a good time, got a small dent and banged the brushgard up pretty good but the rover did well, i am very impressed with the thing. I reccomend evans creek just because they give you a map with trails and there difficulties... i took on a medium to hard yesterday!! There's also Rieter pit in goldbar, washington which i've been to in a friend's Jeep Cherokee, also stock... There they have a wide selection of trails and it's alot of fun, a little more relaxing than what i experienced at evans creek... those are the trails i know of, both allow camping, evans creek has a 5 dollar fee which must be purchased in a chevron on mundy loss road, and it's a long drive from seattle. I'm pumped that i showed a rubicon how its done, without a winch and air lockers...

p.s. to you guys playing around evans creek and reiter, be prepared for body damage and pinstriping if you managed to get onto 520. especially around this time of year trail conditions can change week to week with the rains. if you're new to wheelin' a do not recommend going out there alone with no recovery equipment.

the LR3 looks to be fairly capable in the traction department, but getting stuck is a fact of wheeling. you really need to have front recovery points of some kind, a reciever shackle for the rear recovery point.

the LR3's body work makes having a hi-lift jack useless. between the copious weight of the vehicle and the lack of secure jack points i would advise you to avoid using one at all during recovery. Your best bet is to hope that the smooth underbelly is smooth enough to allow the vehicle to be winched forward or rearward if stuck.

fwiw ...

hey sea rover, what are you driving? what mods you got? I'm not calling you out, just curious... i have yet to see a hooked up rover in person, just in these forums... about the body damage, i was pretty much expecting it, but then again i've got a 11 year old vehicle and didn't shell out alot of money to get it, so a few dings is character and losing a mudflap or 2 is humorous... There are trails at both rieter pit and evans creek in which an lr3 could venture without a huge heart attack factor... I've also sampled a little bit of tahuya forest but had my better half in the car and she's the non abusive co owner. Tahuya had some interesting situations and it was pretty tight in alot of spots, the 2 entrances and exits i went through both had a little "test" section just to get into the orv area and give you an idea of what to expect... not worth the drive from seattle though and the camp grounds are minimal...
