P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance

I just bought a 2015 LR4 with 70k miles, and after driving it for a month the “check engine” light came on. Advanced Auto let me use their scanner and I got the attached output (see images) P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator.

Advanced Auto recommended YouTubing it and I didn’t find much. The parts are only $35/pc, but I’m concerned that I might screw something up. I’ve got a long (850 mile one way) drive coming up soon and don’t want to have any problems.

Any input here would be appreciated

Sounds like a fuel pump is needed, but I'm no expert. Replaced mine twice which now has 79k miles.

Ooof. I would really find someone with a good scanner and read fuel pressures in live data before you trek down the fuel pump journey. What part is $35?

It was a fuel pressure regulator. He noted that there was one per cylinder. Not entirely confident that he knew what he was talking about.

I have the same fault on my 2015 LR4 now. I had it while it was under warranty back in 2017. They replaced the high and low pressure sensors and the fault persisted. They finally replaced the fuel pump which required dropping the gas tank. I don't have a tool to check what is causing the fault. I have looked for the fuel rail and the pressure senors or requlators and haven't been able to find them with out removing a bunch of parts. I have also looked at dropping the gas tank. Without a lift it looks like a big job. I am thinking about purchasing a Gap IID tool to see if I can see what the fuel pressures are. I first want to know if the Gap tool will give me the information. I don't have any performance problems just the fault which I have tried to clear but it returns. Please keep us posted with your resolution.

Will update this forum next week after I get it back from the shop. Light has now gone off after short drives around town all week. Nothing longer than about 15 minutes. Heading to RI shortly will see if the longer drive results in the light coming back on.

A code scammer as posted above spitting out a number does not allow live readings in real time while your driving what the fuel rail pressures are which a different scan unit offers.
Analog or digital gauges with a laptop will show you what is out of spec. A pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail, take the rail return line back to the fuel tank and pinch off a couple seconds allowing a quick check the maximum pressure the fuel pump will generate to eliminate the fuel pump as that problem. One less PITA labor to replace item. Also rail pressures knowing what they are will establish what the pressure regulator is maintaining be it too high or too low as they can and will fail. Sensor failures the last on the list of suspects also an item that might or can fail. It's a Land Rover.
Note all the above tests costing not a single penny vs throwing expensive parts at it until "fixed". Expensive dealership repairs, labor the clock's ticking including replacement of unneeded parts as "customer pays". They then become the miracle mechanics to the average LR owners, so sad.

Should you plan on keeping your LR4 a long time (anything past warranty your way more dollars out of pocket with dealership repairs) and already became friends by first name with your local LR dealership of your liking. It would be a good idea to purchase a Factory Shop Manual on your LR4 plus another item if you can snag a parts manual from the parts department on your LR4. Dealerships replace their parts manuals app every 4 to 6 months with revision upgrades.
With my 95 D1 5 spd I have every part with numbers and photos down to every nut and bolt in the D1 which is of great help along with the Factory Shop Manual being able to diagnose and repair the LR myself......~~=o&o>.....

"one per cylinder" that's a new one on me. I missing something here, please explain?
Like reading a LR diagnostic report of a LR behind a tow truck reporting "it has a burnt intake valve". Another new one on me building and racing engines over 55 years.
Like telling customers you must only run nitrogen in your tires for a special low fee of *** dollars each tire.
Yeah right considering the earth's atmosphere contains 78% nitrogen. Gullible LR owners and their money soon parted.
