Picked up a 2014 HSE Lux this week; first British car, and looking to get a start on the regular maintenance. Looking through these forums, I found this thread:

https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/maintenance-concerns.40286/#post-205307

It does look like this is focused on the 2013 and earlier V8/6spd models, are there differences that I should keep in mind for the V6SC/8spd models? Is there a recommended service manual (I've had a number of Bentley manuals for old German cars, I have a haynes for my Xterra and something for my old Fiat)? I've also seen mention that I need a computer reader (more elaborate than a regular OBD reader, I gather); is there a difference between the $500+ model and the $100 model on Amazon?

Pre-purchase inspection came back pretty clean; only things really were slightly warped front rotors from a poor brake job, and a temperature sensor that isn't working right. Apart from filters and fluids, any other suggestions?

Thanks!

The V6 engine is essentially the 5.0 V8 with the back two cylinders rendered inoperable, then with a supercharger thrown on top. A lot of the maintenance things are similar. I think it has a crossover pipe--it might even be the same as the V8s--and the oil change admonition is true, too. The V6 should have the updated timing chain guides, but those are just a little better and still require a regular oil change.

Everything else in that maintenance thread is the same as your car.

AT least you don't have to get to the two firewall sparkplugs. I sill find it insane LR essentially "plugged" two cylinders.

uhhhh, how have I been on this board and a SC V6 LR4 owner for almost 3 years and never new that the engine was a V-8 block with 2 plugged cylinders???!?!?

I am dumbfounded.

anyone ever put a SC from the 5.0 V-8 RRS or RR and unplug the cylinders? Or is the LS swap we saw the better route for those wanting to beef things up?

Are you serious Clark?

Never paid any attention to the V6 as I don't have one.

The block is legitimately the same with 2 unbored cylinders in the rear?

That is janky as hell if true.

Is that JLRs implementation of GMs cylinder deactivation tech.

Welcome to the forum. It is possible the front rotors warped because the caliper pins were installed wrong. There was a thread that explained how they should be installed.

This will explain what you need to look for. I hope you enjoy your rover, they are great vehicles if you don't mind working on them.

As an owner of a 2014 and now a 2015, I was dumfounded when I found out, here she (AJ126) is...

While I'm content with the 375hp/tq V8 power, it's a shame they never offered a supercharged 5.0 V8 version with ~500hp/460tq... that would have been awesome.

Dunno if a swap is feasible, or if anyone has done it, but that would - IMO - be hugely preferred over the LS swap.
