Yes, both Handsfree and music streaming work side-by-side. In fact, on your phone you will see it connected to 2 different BT devices.

That’s news to my ears!!! FYI, I didn’t know the phone could actually put to two different devices at the same time.

On the other side on the house, after doing a little bit of digging, it appears as though the only real difference between the 10-11 and 12 & up audio systems is the Integrated Audio Module. (Or radio interface module as some sites refer to it.).

Honestly, I just assumed it was a Bluetooth thing, but As far as I can tell, the Bluetooth receiver module is the same from 2010 all the way through 2017. (Unless they just update the 10-11 module to the newer one if replacing).

I also discovered that the display system is the same for the entire LR4 lineup....which makes the IAM the only real part that updates right around 2012-2013. From a visual standpoint, the one in the manual has 2 extra connectors. One connector that appeared to be missing I believe is the hard drive connector...as I believe in 2012 they got rid of the hard drive and went to some sort of Integrated SSD that could be updated via Safelite....I think. Truthfully I can’t remember the specific NAV storage system update, but I’m fairly confident they got rid of the hard drive.

All this is to say, we may be able to update the IAM from LR040663 to the slightly newer CF6N-18C815–JA (I think that’s a Jag part number....should cross with LR087427....or one of the many interchange parts).

One of the few remaining questions I’ve got, is if the HD is now out of the loop, are the NAV maps kept on the IAM somewhere? Or would we need to track down that interface system as well.

Things to ponder....[emoji848]

The whole system was slightly out of date when my 2010 rolled off the line. I am still using an old ipod touch to run music with the old style apple connector. Knock on wood it still works.

I have some great news - I recently bought the Amazon Echo Auto and using this device I am able to say "Alexa Play {insert song or playlist} and it connects to my phone via BT and the Echo Auto plugs into my audio input jack to play the song. So I'm wireless streaming via BlueTooth from phone to Echo Auto, which is mounted on the dash and is hard wired to my 2010 LR4's audio input. (yes the jack at the back of the center console) It works perfectly. Having a 2010 LR4, I don't have BT streaming for music - only for phone, but this enables me to have flawless audio streaming along with all the other Alexa features of an Amazon Echo device. It works really well. And yes, I did need to get an extension cable for the included audio cable as it doesn't reach.
Don't want to be a naysayer but having the complete opposite experience. When it works it is good but man that is like 20% of the time and not without major fiddling. My wife hates it because she wants it to just work and it doesn't.

You know what's worked great for me as of late? "Hey Siri - Play ______" All I need is bluetooth or hardwire input. It works great! (mind you I have Apple Music)

I’ve had issues with my communication cable in the past, that may be a good place to start when it comes to troubleshooting the 20% issue.

Not gonna lie, this has me interested, but there are A LOT of questions I need answered before I would even consider pulling the trigger on something like that. With that in mind, I sent the seller a rather lengthy info request...we’ll see what they respond with.

I was sick of the old system and gave up on trying to upgrade/update it but rather enhance it so I could at least use my phone to play Bluetooth music. When researching I came across this thing called the “bovee1000” its basically a Bluetooth receiver that plugs into your iPod connecter cord through the old iPod charger. You can connect your phone and if you put your phone volume to 90% it will sound exactly the same as if you plugged it in normally. It’s probably one of the most useful things I’ve ever purchased in my life and I highly recommend it.
