I am not so sure. It goes higher up, I think, but from a lower base.

Nah. It starts from a higher base and goes way higher. :) It's got better numbers than any stock current or past Land Rover vehicle for regular and off-road height clearances, approach, departure and ramp angles, thanks also in part to the large-ish 32" stock tires, short overhangs and that spare tire located where it should have been all along. As far as the IIDTool, GAP is already working on making it compatible with the new Defender (I checked with them to make sure they would support it - too important a tool for modern Land Rovers.)

My wife has 31K miles on her 2013, so that is 15 more years before she gets to 100K miles. She doesn't want any other vehicle so I'll be here long-term as well.

And at 43k miles, I thought I had the lowest mileage LR4 in the forum. As I've mentioned many times, we also have plans to keep this thing as far as I can see into the future.

The new Defender engines have an oil dipstick again! And here you were all complaining Land Rover didn't listen to owners anymore... Aren't you sorry now? :)

You know since the LR4 has the integrated siphon tube it should not be hard to create a dipstick that would work.

I have thought of that, just never got around to it. One of those round "wire" types would work just fine once you got your measurements sorted out.

@umbertob

Does the Defender retain the siphon tube? Top side oil changes are a thing of beauty.

The vacuum method is the only one left actually, I don't believe the new engines even have a drain plug on the bottom of the sump so you don't get a choice. Also, it looks like the tube for the dipstick does double duty as the vacuum pipe - so the 710 cap is only used for fills and top ups.

Actually, the LR4 doesn't have a raised air intake available, since the petrol engine has air intakes on both sides of the car. The LR3 did as its engine only breathed on one side. The Defender's is a RAI, not a snorkel - and it appears to be very cheaply built judging by the PowerfulUK fitting video. The aftermarket can do better (and they probably will.) The new Defender does have much better wading depth capabilities, 35.4" max vs 27.5" max for the LR3/4.

Well, but I am a happy owner of an LR4 with a diesel motor:), so I have an OEM RAI and was just wondering about the new Def... As to wading depth, Mudtech's Anitas system does allow you to manually raise the car to emergency mode settings (an extra 3" above offroad mode), so while the difference remains, it is smaller...

So I just saw the new Defender going down the road a few minutes ago for the first time in person. I was really disappointed. I first thought it was a Honda, then I got a closer look and saw that is was the Defender. Looked very small as well. Not sure what I was expecting for the first sight, I was just hoping to be a bit more impressed. It will prob just take some getting used to, as most new cars do. We are considering the "110" version due to wanting 4 doors down the road. By that time I am sure I'll have a more favorable opinion, but for now, the LR4 will do just fine.
