Sorry to hear you are having troubles. I don't think it's typical. Our 05 had teething issues being new software but updates fixed most of the problems we had. The other problems we had were covered under TSB's and recalls. -

Akebono Ceramics
I ran Akebono ceramics on my TL and the only issue I found with them is cold weather performance. They don't brake quite as well when cold but once they warm up all is good. -

cooper tires and crappy gas milage
My mileage went down as well when I swapped over to the Coopers. As everyone else is pointing out, you've changed a few things. The Coopers weigh more then the stock Goodyears. Takes extra power to get them rolling thus you press the pedal down more to get the same accelleration you were used... -

Reg vs Premium fuel?
You are partially correct here. Octane rating measures the ability of the fuel to resist auto ignition and burn in a controlled manner. It is not a measurement of the fuels energy content or Heating Value. Pound for pound a 91 octane fuel will create the same energy content as an 87... -

First problem: A/C cuts out while idling or moving slowly
Ryan-in-Oregon hit this on the head. The computer is most likely trying to keep the engine from overheating. The A/C condenser sits in front of the radiator so if the A/C is running it will preheat the already 105 degree air that you are pulling in so air that passes over the radiator itself... -

Disco Mike, I've seen you recommend this K&N filter but according to the K&N site this filter is for a Ford 4.0l v6, some Audi's and VW's. No list of LR at all. K&N HP-1014 is listed as compatible with an 05 LR3 with 4.4 V8. Is there something special that I don't know that would make... -

Check engine light
Nathan, quick question for you.. If the IDS system is not ODBII compliant then how does the LR3 pass smog checks up in Washington where their test consists mainly of plugging in to the ODBII port to pull codes? They don't even put a sniffer in the exhaust for smog check if the car is less then... -

2005 Service Items
We're going solo as part of a weekend long trip. Friday is TSF. Saturday is some beach stuff along the coast. Gonna hit some sand! The LR3 is my wifes truck and she's a stay at home mom.. -

2005 Service Items
We are at 30k and have not had bushings or brakes replaced. I just swapped on our Coopers last weekend and did a thorough inspection of brakes/suspension and all looks good with about 45% of brakes left. Goin to Tillamook on Friday. I can't wait! -

Board's Advice
Get an Interstate battery that fits and use the Optima in the spare battery tray with one of the Traxide battery isolators. At least that's what I would do. -

Gas door security
As grommet said it does not lock on the NA models. However it is NOT siphon proof. We had our gas door pried open (the theives were too dumb to figure out you just push in on the door to release the catch) and 1/2 a tank of gas siphoned out of the tank. -
