I have lifters sticking changed to royal purple oil and used lucas and still just tap tap only after the engine is reved up. How hard is it to change the lifters.

Second my temp guage runs normal and after 5 or so mins of running shoots up to hot but the car isn't over heating replaced temp sensor? Any Ideas?

Lifters, are you sure that is the issue?

Temp gauge goes up, sounds like your low on fluids or the radiator needs flushed or replaced.

How many miles and some maintenance history would be helpful.

if not the hydraulic then what would be making the tap sound then goes away after motor is run at low rpms

plenty of coolant been flushed in the last 20k miles. could it be the dash guage?

Could be the oil pump on its way out or the pick up tube is clogged.

First, deal with the overheat issue before the engine gets torched. As for the noise, based on the age of the truck, you probably have either a bad rocker are, lifter, push rod or a flat spot on your cam or an oil pressure issue. Whatever it is, you need to find it quick.
