Costco's Kirkland Signature 5W-20?

as I do 5k oil change intervals, I will start using this oil going forward. I use M1 EP 5w-20 now and it's fine, but this is half the price. I don't anticipate there being any issues. Now the question is, 0w-20 or 5w-20?

No need 0W-20 is Washington DC. 5W-20 all the way.

Good point. Although I woke up yesterday in WV and it was 3F. Glad I replaced the battery recently, it cranked right up.

That is good. Interesting fact is that viscosity vs temperature is not always a linear relationship (viscosity index) . It is possible for a 5W oil to actually have less viscosity at a moderate cold temperature (say 3F) than a 0W. At extreme cold the 0W will be less viscous than a 5W since that is where the classification takes place.

Maybe I'm a snob, but the idea of putting Kirkland oil in my LR4 engine gives em the *******. The Mobil1 EP 5W-20 is pretty darn cheap at Walmart.

While I'm at it, I'm probably a snob by only feeding Shell 93 octane. In a pinch I'll do Mobil 93 or Sunoco 93.

Every time I see the name of this thread on the main page, my mind thinks of all the highly rated booze that Costco sells under the Kirkland brand. But that’s my issue to deal with...

If I were to go with a Castrol alternative, I would have plenty of time-tested and well-regarded options to try before I got to Kirkland brand. That said, there are all sorts of products we purchase under private label packaging that are made by huge trusted brands. But I’m sticking with the extra-****** Castrol for now.

I also prefer Shell V-Power 93 premium, but I trust just about any Top Tier high octane gas in a pinch for my Rover.

93 octane? Correct me if I am wrong but the manual calls for 95 RON which is 91 in the US. Bare minimum is 91 RON which is 87 but warns against prolonged use.

Edit: searching around on the forums I see it is 95 RON minimum in normal situations. I though for a bit I missed something and was filling up with lower than recommended octane fuel.

That's kind of where my mind was with the original question: Same stuff, different label?
Even when I buy booze at the Costco, I'm too snobby to buy the Kirkland brand brown liquor. I like the name brand stuff. I'm pretty sure the effects are the same after a couple of rounds, regardless.
