Shocks? How to know when they are dead?

My Disco 2 (2000) seems to be on the original shocks after 80000 miles. Everything has been fine with the car, but I'm beginning to think that the ride is a little bouncy these days. I've jumped up and down on each corner and can confirm that each corner bounces on the rebound. However, I'm not sure whether a Disco is supposed to do this?

Any recommendations on a good way to determine when shocks are due for a change?

If they bounce more than once ... they may need to be change (mine bounced twice ... dealer replaced under warrenty). If they bounce more than two times ... replace ...

Stock shock will normally last between 30 and 40k, so at 80k they are way over due.

It just discovered that my Disco has some good points, with 120k on the teller, my shoks are still okay (they got tested when I renewed my licence) and I can tell you that they are used mostly off road in harsh conditions. I'm surpriced to read that their lifespan is only 30 to 40k ? Or.... are the Landrovers exported to the Middle East fitted with a different type!

if you have 120k on the shocks you are doing great... most shocks don't last that long. No matter what type vehicle they are on. But I bet if you pull one off you will find they are not as good as new or even close....

Remember if you can compress and pull them apart with little to no effort they are bad, that is unless you are a member of the worlds strongest man catagory.
