i second that! great write up, couldn't have stated it any better. i just finished field testing it for Xlifter as i am becoming a US distributor. i did have 1 issue with the wiring loom but Jan @ Xlifter and i troubleshot it and figure out the issue within a couple hours and a new wiring loom was overnighted...BOOM... back in business. works beautifully.

let me know if anyone has questions or would like one I am working out pricing/discount for forum members.

Steve

@Steve Trayner are you the distributor now for XLifter? How can one order? Thanks

Just buy it directly from xlifter.com.

This is where I mounted mine and it fits perfectly.

I have an Xlifter also. It is certainly better than rods because you can easily lift ONLY WHEN NEEDED. I run mine at 0 unless im offroad. No reason to mess up your tire alignment all the time or put stress on stuff.

The primary reason I bought it was the self leveling feature. When I use my sleeping platform I love being able to level it out and sleep. You have to be below 4.5 degrees of pitch and roll combined to level. You just kinda drive around until it stops blinking at you and then you let it level. Takes a few minutes but then you can be setup for the night.

Just a quick comment on that:
- the 4.5 degrees combined is a max of what the physical wheel articulation can do. Of course, you can start levelling from higher angles, but it will never reach full "zero" angle.
- The 80 second time for one leveling cycle (80 coarse + 80 finetuning) is just a "dummy timer" giving the car some time to adjust. When I do self-levelling, I start levelling, then immediately use the "kick trick" (hitting LR original height buttons up and down) to force immediate reaction and finally just turn off the engine as soon as angles are fine. Total time is usually below 30 seconds.

If you have any questions regarding the XL, pls ask, I'll try to shed some light on the matter.
I should know, I'm the guy who built it and is sending the packages to you (I mean fellow LR enthusiasts) :)

Cheers from Prague, Czech Republic,
Jan

PS: Awesome pics/camping spot!

Good to know.

What I've been doing is get to my spot, open the driver's window, open the hatch/tailgate (so, I can unpack), and start the leveling. It takes about 200 seconds (100 for initial tuning + 100 for fine tuning). I also noticed that sometimes the leveling is perfect for just a bit and now I know I can simply shut the engine off.

Will the truck start up in the XLifter's last setting or is it in the leveling mode?

... in leveling mode.
Next time the ignition is switched on (usually next morning), XLifter will start in "leveling finished" screen. Car is still level.
Right arrow and "exit to drive" will return car to normal (to the lift which was set before leveling was started).

Thanks for building XL, it is a pretty amazing value add for this platform. Being able to level an adventure travel vehicle is game changing. My tacoma buddies are getting all sweaty stacking rocks and spotting each other to get level and I am chilling to tunes in air conditioning while it levels. I don't care about the time it takes to level because it means I don't have to get out and help them level right away. :D

One point of feedback on the leveling screen, it isn't immediately obvious which little bar is pitch and which is roll. and which is front/rear/left/right. Would it be possible to make the bar slightly land rover shaped for the pitch bar so you can see front/rear.. maybe roll could be a bar/box with two little boxes left and right that look like tires? Or maybe just a "F" and "R" under the pitch and "L" "R" under the roll bar?

It helps to know which axis you are off and which side is high/low so you can move around and find a spot.

@Jan Stanek Can I make a future software upgrade to add an "advanced" feature to manually set the pitch and roll?

Make it easy... pitch only allows front to back and roll for left and right.

I've thought of that - no problem from a software point of view, however complication from the usability side.
These days, it is simplicity and easiness of use seem to be a priority for most.
And 128x64 pixels with 4 buttons is ... challenge.

So I have this in my backlog, but not very high in my priorities.
Height sensor recovery and few other ideas are...
