1. What sort of symptoms would you expect that require a cross over pipe replacement? I have had oil cooler and water pump replaced over the last few years on my 2013 (60k miles) so estimating what the next issue could be and seems cross over pipes are pretty common too.

Just trying to understand early indications and temporary remediation if it happens on an out of town trip.

2. Would any body know the rough effort involved for a professional (hours of work) so I can estimate what mechanic would charge. Better if you already know what it may have cost you.

There aren't many symptoms. They catastrophically fail on these vehicles and usually take the engine with them when they go...

I would recommend having it replaced. There is an updated part.

As for how much it costs, mine was done under warranty so I'm not 100% sure but I believe it should run you anywhere from $1000-1500 on the V8.

When the "pipe" is starting to fail it will usually start seeping leaking at the seam, so you would have to very closely watch your coolant level. The "pipe" is a plastic assembly with two coolant carrying halves attached together on a long seam. When that seam starts to fail you get small leaks. In the event of a total failure you will overheat the engine if not caught on time. Small leaks are just a precursor to a total failure.

You can reach around the back of the crossover assembly seam and feel the coolant and see it on your finger too. Landrover brought out P/N LR122710 which is a redesign to replace P/N LR109401, but in my experience this part is even worse than the original and starts to fail in several thousand miles. Two shops have experienced the same thing with P/N LR122710. Plastic should not be in a cooling system.

Dealer cost to replace on a 2016 LR4 HSE V6 is $3600 in Metro Texas as the supercharger must be removed to replace the crossover assembly. An independent show will likely do it for $1,000 plus the part. Dealer does not provide warranty for anything but the OEM part. Some of the OEM parts offer a lifetime warranty, BUT that is part only and the labor cost is the issue.

The problem is the assembly is plastic and over time with heat cycling it goes bad. There are four different makes of aluminum aftermarket replacement. I bought one of each and received two and am waiting for the others and am very closely comparing to choose which one I will use. Already, between the two I received I see serious issues that will lead me to return one immediately.

OP has a 2013 [most likely a NA 5.0v8] Labor cost should be less than that for the supercharged v6. Not sure but i would expect 1500-2000 USD. I did my own. genuine OEM part is about 120 for just the front crossovers. If I were you though while the intake plenum is out ect. replace the rear heat manifold as the same time. The fronts and the heat manifold are both plastic and over time, heat and coolant degrades the plastic so it becomes brittle. the fronts may not give you any warning before "bursting/cracking/crumbling" and dumping all of your coolant. the rear usually starts seeping coolant first.
