My LR4 is 18mo new to me @ 66K miles. Love the vehicle. Little old lady original owner and LR dealer serviced. Had local independent shop change all fluids on purchase, no major items so far. When I’m accelerating OR decelerating past the 2700 rpm level, I get a whining/hard working kind of sound and minor vibration you can feel in the steering wheel. Again, both speeding up and decreasing speed, only through 2600-2800 rpm in any gear. Engine sounds strong below and above that point. Shop diagnosed it as a problem exhaust (thought they identified something loose inside), which I replaced, but did not address the problem. I would greatly appreciate any ideas and items to check on. Next stop would be the local LR dealer which I’m loath to do. Thanks

Dealership is your best bet. They deal with these vehicles on a daily basis.

It sounds kind of like the heat shield bracket on the transmission, but i think it usually resonates around 1700-1800 rpm or so rather than 2800.

If this is the problem, understand that it is the bracket under the heat shield that develops a crack and starts to rattle, not the heat shield itself. Easy fix, but you need to replace the right part.

To see if it is the heat shield bracket, just get under the car with a mallet and hit lightly on the transmission heat shield. if the bracket is cracked you’ll hear a kind of resonance noise/rattle.

There's also a Technical Bulleting that's related to a transfer case rattle around 2800 rpm - check out LTB00305NAS3. IF it does happen to be that, it's a really simple fix to install the damper.
