Your truck looks great, I exchanged my Zeon 275/55/20s for a set of 285/50/20s and it really made a big difference. No rubbing and plenty of travel. This tire fills the well and looks great. I just didn't like the rubbing and didnt really want to beat the hell out of my wheel well. Noe its time for an alignment.

275/55R20 Zeon - diameter 31.9 width 10.8

285/50R20 Hankook - diameter 31.3 width 11.2

So that small difference in diameter helps avoid rubbing, even with a wider tire? I assume this is with a full-time lift? Johnson rods recommends that for LR4, tires not be more than 31.5" diameter.

Aesopian, I think your ride looks great and really want to lift my LR4 but did you resolve the rubbing? Also, what height were you at when you drove the 1200 miles, we're the rods adjustable?

Thanks!

Rubbing has been fine. Turning radius is not as tight, but 98% of the time it is not an issue. Backing up and turning sharply causes rubbing most often. I have done nothing to the truck except to ensure the plastic within the wheel well is clear. The rubbing against the frame hasn't done any damage to the tires.

When I drove the 1200 miles the Johnson Rods were installed. I've never taken them off after I put them on.

I'm looking at the 20" Stormer wheels, with a 275/45/20 tire. That's close to the factory 255/55/19 tire size in terms of rotational mass. Will I be ok? No suspension mods

275/45R20:
Width : 10.8268" (275 mm)
Sidewall : 4.8720" (123.75 mm)
Wheel dia : 20" (508.0000 mm)
Rolling dia : 29.7441" (755.5000 mm)
Rolling circ: 93.4438" (2373.4732 mm)

255/55R19:
Width : 10.0394" (255 mm)
Sidewall : 5.5217" (140.25 mm)
Wheel dia : 19" (482.6000 mm)
Rolling dia : 30.0433" (763.1000 mm)
Rolling circ: 94.3838" (2397.3494 mm)

255/55R19 vs 275/45R20 Difference = -1.0060% (255/55R19 is bigger)
Speedometer will read FAST.

INDICATED SPEED ACTUAL SPEED
20 19.7988
40 39.5976
60 59.3964
80 79.1952
100 98.9940
120 118.7929
140 138.5917
160 158.3905

Has anyone tried the BFG ATs in 285/55R20? I just ordered my Johnson Rods, now looking for some decent tyres. Had 33" BFG MTs on the Disco2 - but not available in the right size for 20s... What's your experience/s like running the Johnson Rods full-time (with camber adjustment, obviously)?

Thanks,
tb

A 285/55/20 is 32.4 inches in diameter and is way too big. I have a 275/55/20 Zeon at 31.9" and it rubs like hell. Looks great but drives me nuts. I'm putting the 265/50/20 back on. As for the Johnson Rods, I run them full time and love them. I definitely suggest that if you decide to do the same, take it in for a full alignment. The cost of the alignment will safe you rubber later.

According to a rep at Johnson Rods (can't recall his name), he recommends no more than 31.5" diameter tires.

Expat93, your post from December said you had 285/50/20s (Zeons I think) and experienced no rubbing at all. What was the diameter of that tire?

285/50R20 Zeon LTZ

Hi all - I am ordering these tyres. The diameter is 31.22" (31.39" according to TyreMonkey.com). Check this site for comparing rolling diameters, etc.: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp?err=98&rsn=cde-no-cde-gen-by-svr.

Now - what do you guys do about the spare? Will a 31.22", 285mm width tyre fit in the undercarriage space? I love the Kaymar replacement rear bar with tyre carrier/s (http://kaymar.com.au/vehicles/landrover/discovery4.php) - but too expensive for me right now...

Thanks again!

FYI early build LR3's (2005 & 2006) could accept a 285/50/20 tire without rubbing. In 2007 LR added a redesigned bump stop on the chassis that created rubbing for the 285 tire size. LR4s in stock offset would have rubbing with 285's but any extension outwards should be ok (or the grinding down of the bump stop on the chassis - not that I'm recommending that of course).
