Hey guys,

I have a 99 Land Rover Disco Series II, just spent $1200 at the dealership getting the airbag suspension fixed and a few engine code problems.

Anyway, it's time for some new tires. The LR dealer said I could get the stock tires for $819.00 + $65.00 for front end allignment + $59.00 mount and balance. Problem is I have to wait another week, take it back and leave it a day *g*

Does anyone know what the *BEST* tires are to buy? I hardly ever go off road so I'm looking for comfort, quietness, great handling and safety (kids are always with me).

If you have an idea please let me know and please link me to a place to purchase, thanks!

Tire size - 255/55R/18

try reviews on www.tirerack.com then drive down to you local tire shop and either see what they have in stock or can get fairly quick.

I am running the General Grabber UHP and I find them much smother then the stock 18inch tires, but I have heard mixed reviews on them. Theses are also a summer tire only, so you would also need a snow tire. If your in Ontario I can recommend a tire place.

My personal fave for a family SUV is the BF Goodrich All Terrain. However, I just checked their web site and they don't offer this tire in your rim size. Sorry.

I like this tire for it's quiteness, smooth running and even wear; it offers good traction in snowy conditions; if you do go off-road it is good in the sand and loose dirt but isn't the greatest in the mud. That's were the Mud Terrain comes in.

Hello guys,
Since we are in the subject, I have to replace my set of tires. What I am using now is Michelin 4x4 XPC Size 250/60/16R and I was thinking about replacing them with the BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM and increase the width from 60 to 70 (250/70/16R). My question is if I increase the size will I be abele to fit the spire tire to the stranded spare tire mount? And is it recommended to change tire size. :)

I have been running on Geolanders for a few years now ... recommended!!!!

Do a search on Geolanders here .... I have had no problems with them ... and a s a bonus, the ABS & Traction control come on 1/4th the time as with the GY. Saves brakes .... especially the rears!!!

I agree -- the Geolandars are great A/T tires. I "upgraded" to 235/85 GY MT/Rs, and sometimes wish I still had the Yokos. Maybe my next tires will be MT Geolandars...
