Traded in my 2006 LR3 for a 2011 LR4 with 20 inch wheels. I swapped my johnson rods over to the LR4 and I'm now looking to change the tires. Johnsonrods.com has a list of available tires for the 20 inch wheels, but I am hoping to see some pictures and get some real world recommendations here. Anyone have the 20 inch wheels with some more aggressive tires that they can show me or advise me on? Thanks in advance.

Here is some terrific advice given to me - I was looking for more side wall because I have the 20" rims w/the scorpions and have already dinked up my rims after 2 outings of relatively easy trails. (decided I will eventually go, once my current ones are ready to be replaced, w/the 18" custom rims from england "Compomotive Wheels" www.comp.co.uk - quoted at $1535 delivered.

The Nitto's are available in a 265/50/20 (based on their website) which barely gives you a little more sidewall protection. It is a pretty decent tire though. I'd say I've put mine to the test. General Grabber AT's are supposed to be a good option but I've read they have balancing issues which could greatly affect wear

If you want to increase the size check out Cooper Zeon LTZ. A friend had those on his LR3 instead of the Nitto's before he went to an even larger size and they were great in his opinion. These tires might be a little too ******** in size for you however.

275/55/20 - 31.9" Diameter, 6.0" Sidewall (Toyo Open County, GY Wrangler Silent Armor)
285/50/20 - 31.2" Diameter, 5.6" Sidewall

Of course his advise was based on no modifications (lift kits, etc).

Happy :driver: !

Hi,

I just looked at the Yokohama AT-s on thursday. 275 55 20. They loked like solid tires but after comparing them to the Goodyear Wrangler SA, they would be my second choice for an AT tire.

The GY has more initial tread depth and with the technology put in them, I would say they are worth the extra $75 a tire to get.

Good luck,

Rob

So the 285/50/20 fit with no rubbing? Looking at nitto Terra grapplers in that size.

The Yokohama AT-S's are a great AT tire, I had them in 265/60-18. Very high wet/dry road grip, and outstanding hydroplanning resistance. They do very well off-road for an AT, and I would place them above the Revo and way above the Pirelli ATR. The Pirelli's are fine offroad if it is dry, but chunk-up very easily in even slight mud. No experience with the GY's, however.

Both the Pirelli's and the Yoko's are comparable to most all-season tires in terms of ride and noise. I would put the grip of the Yoko's above the LR3's stock GY's.

Any of you guys have pictures of your LR4s with or without the Johnson Rods and bigger tires?

I ended up getting the compo rims, so I have 285/60/18 Nitto ATs and I love them. So much nicer not to have watch out for my tires on the trail, plus everyone compliments me on the look too.
