we had a downpour tonight, and i went driving in my Land Rover. I went through this HUUUGE puddle, and not soon after that, I noticed my Check Engine Soon light was on.

I just bought this Discovery 04 used and didnt know if this light will turn off itself, or if i need to get it serviced.

Would driving through some standing water trigger this?

As you can see, this is my first post. Just call me Hubie the Nubie.

check to see if your intake box has water in it..... if you hit a puddle real fast and send a large amount of water flying through the air :) then you can have some water collect in your intake box, you might have to pull it out and dump it out. If you bought your Disco at a Rover dealer then they should service it. I had a friend drive his 03 disco through about 4ft of water less than a week after he bought it and he brought it to the dealer all muddy and they pulled the air intake out and dumped water out of it... they dont like to see that, but if your rover isn't covered in mudd and you just them you were cruising down a back road and hit a large puddle thye should understand.

congrats on owning an 04' if you ever decide to take it in the woods you will be greatly surprised, those are awesome off road! The computer's with the center diff lock are awesome! Just remember not to get too spiratic with the throttle, if you stay consisten at about 2,000 rpm then your computer will do all the work, it's really cool to see!

could this be why my "check engine soon" light came on? is the intake box part of the engine?

maybe i'm out of my element on these boards, as i know nothing about cars. Can you explain in lehman's terms what you said about the 'computer'? What computer?

I bought the LR from a private seller, not a dealer. Do you think a LR dealer would still dump the water out? can any mechanic do these easily?

to be 100% honest with you, I have never owned a series 2 Discovery(aka Disco). Your 2004 Disco is legendary off road, when Land Rover built they really did alot to send the series 2 disco out with a bang.

Your intake pulls from the wheel well I believe and that it why it gets water in it. Tomorrow I'll try and have a look at my brother's since he has a series 2 disco then I'll be able to tell you more. the job should be pretty easy to do, so either you will be able to do it, or someone should be able to do it affordably.

The computer I refered to is your traction control system, it is awesome, and your disco has center dif lock which just means that you have an awesome off road set up:) I hope you really enjoy that, me and all my friends dream of owning 04 Disco's and lifting them and using them on some big Safari some day! Don't feel out of place here, you'll learn this stuff if you want to. Honestly it's fun and can get addicting, and there's nothing wrong with owning a land rover and never off roading it, they are awesome looking and have great interiors! My brother has a "Westminster" edition which has an incredible interior! The fact that our Rover's look great and are incredibly capable off road just makes them that much more awesome!

I'll bet someone knows a good bit more than me on your check engine light and possible causes. It may just go off on it's own when your car dries out. atleast your engine didn't cut out which is a plus.

First things first download the repair manual it will save you money. http://www.landroverresource.com/

Second... here is where the air filter/air box is that will probably be full of water.
