So far I've chickened out at doing the oil change myself. We only do it once a year (roughly 3-4k miles), and so it's just gone to the shop to be done. I had priced out the kit from atlantic british, and the extra the shop charges is pretty reasonable for labor (total for oil change has been in the 175 - 200 range, vs. 175 for the kit from AB.) Are folks managing to do these for far less using the mobil 1?

I have been using Castrol Edge Extended Performance 0W-20 in my 2016. I set a reminder for 5000 miles.

If you have a mityvac or similar vacuum system then it is dead simple. You will also need a cap wrench to remove filter housing. About 20 mins tops and you can do it in a white dress shirt.

These are Cdn costs. I'll conver t to US$ at the end.

oil: $75 for 8L (Mobil 1 extended life high mileage )
filter: $30 (WIX or Mann or Mahle)

$105 CDN = $81US.

I use pennzoil ultra platinum 5w20. Through tests on the interweb and my own oil analysis results on two different trucks it seems to be the “best” for me. I’m doing 6-6500 mile intervals on this thing.

Engine Oil I use for my 2012 LR4 Hse V8 - Mobil Delvac 1 ESP (5w-40) Advanced Full Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil 3.78L X2 (plus 400ml+ from a measuring cup) - Summer oil -------------- $67.99

Oil Filter - LR011279

The weight is based on the recommendation of an east-coast Land Rover/Range Rover Custom Builder/repairer...Whose number I got from Brit-lantic: and said repairer has been booked solid since 10-2021...I couldn't get in so I went to another reputable shop...
Changed oil every 3k or so...Every long trip I take, I change the oil/filter 1st...

Trying to find the right oil for my LR4 2016. I asked Catrol Canada for advice on alternatives to the unobtainable 0w20 E oil. The response from Castrol today:

Castrol EDGE 0W-20 E was replaced with Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC.

Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC is not available in Canada, only in the US.

Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 is available in Canada but only through Jaguar and Land Rover Dealerships.

Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 (replaces Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-20) is approved for use in Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles that require a Jaguar and Land Rover engine oil specification STJLR.03.5006 or STJLR.51.5122 0W-20 lubricant.

Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 is also suitable for use in automotive gasoline and diesel engines where the vehicle manufacturer recommends an ACEA C5 rated SAE 0W-20 lubricant.

Please note that Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 is only available for purchase through Jaguar and Land Rover dealership locations.

If you want to stay on the official spec you have a couple options outside the OE Castrol.

Liqui Moly Special Tec LR
Liqui Moly 6600
Ravenol makes a few 0w20s that'll do
Valvoline European Vehicle 0w20
Motul 5122
probably more I forget

There's lots of debates on oils here and everywhere. I'm doing my next change with the 6600, not super happy with the new Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w20 formula. I won't be driving as much the next few months so the 0w20 over winter will be a good choice for me. I'm going to switch it up to a 5w30 or 5w40 in the spring.

You got Costco? Kirkland Full Synthetic 0-20 every 5k miles. It’s sold in a two-pack of 5 quart bottles here. Don’t get analysis paralysis. Throw in a bottle of MOS2 every time. GTG
